I met Karen about 13 years ago after we moved into the neighbourhood. One day she recognized me and our 3 children at Food Basics where she worked as a cashier. After that, each week we would get in her line and catch up abit - what our kids were up to, current events or excitement over an upcoming trip south. I would feel guilty going to the grocery store on her off days or after her regular hours since our kids so enjoyed the attention she gave them. When Emma, Ben & Aaron were little, Karen spoiled them with extra special Halloween treats whether or not she was able to be there to see them in their costumes. In the past few years our catching up changed locations. From time to time I stopped by to chat with Karen when I saw her soaking up the rays on her front porch. Each and every time she smiled and made me laugh with her storytelling, even though physically she was struggling. She always spoke with such love and respect for her husband and children and she absolutely adored her grandchildren. Please know that you were all very precious to her. Thank-you Karen for being such a wonderful neighbour to me and my family! You will be missed. Love, Josee
