It is with a deep sense of loss that we, the family announce Werner Berkau has been called home to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the age of 76, after a long battle with leukemia.
Werner Berkau was born on November 25, 1939 in East Prussia, Germany. He is survived by his wife Petra; children Angela, Karsten (Dayna), and Theo; grandchildren Orin and Toby; and siblings Erwin (Ute), Ingrid (Horst), Dieter (Lydia), Edith (Giovanni), and Irmgard (Thomas). Predeceased by his wife Lenora; and his parents Alfred and Maria Berkau.
Werner's family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467, on Monday, September 12, 2016 from 12 noon - 12:45 p.m. followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 1:00pm. Interment Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Sympathy can be expressed through a charitable donation to the Mennonite Central Committee, Fountain of Hope Ministries or the Gideons (cards available at the funeral home).
