Obituary for Erich George Doering

Doering, Erich:
Passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Grand River Hospital at the age of 89 years.
He is survived by his partner of 26 years, Lilly Bieronski. Loving father to Marilyn Doering (Richard Kroeker), Ed (Betty Ann), Harry (Maura McCarthy), and Nancy (Tom) Garcia. Very proud and cherished Opa to Katherine, Kristin, Kayla, Taylor, Kaitlin, Riley, Eric and Bryn. Predeceased by his parents, Edmund and Martha, sister Peggy Karpowicz and brother-in-law, Alex Karpowicz.

Erich was born in Adamow, Poland in 1929. The outbreak of WWII disrupted his childhood, but through the sponsorship of his Uncle Jacob and Aunt Agnes he was able to emigrate. He arrived in Canada with his mom and sister on the Beaverbrae in February, 1951. He was 21 years old, spoke little English, and had nothing to his name, but through hard work and perseverance, he was able to provide a loving and comfortable life for his family. He had a successful career in masonry and construction, and he was a lifetime member of Bethel Church. He was respected throughout his life for being an honourable man whose word could always be trusted. Throughout his life he loved the outdoors - particularly fishing and camping with his family and friends. He was extremely proud of his children, but he gained the most joy from watching his grandchildren grow and succeed in their various endeavors.

Erich's family will receive relatives and friends from 2:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A funeral service will be held in the chapel at 4:30 p.m. Reception to follow. Private family interment at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

Erich requested that in lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church would be appreciated (cards available at the funeral home).
