Academy Award

For Mothers day one year, Sears had a special promotion for a new line of cosmetics and perfume by having the main star (Catharine Chandler) of the popular soap opera The Young and Restless flown in by helicopter to the parking lot of Sears and then taken in to a stage they had put up in the store. Mom and I happened to be at the mall shopping totally unaware of this special event. We noticed the huge crowd and wondered what was happening so followed them into Sears. Neither mom or I had ever watched the show but we filled out the ballot for a draw anyway and to our surprise, mom won the top prize. It was lunch with this famous actress and her daughter plus an enormous gift basket of all the products being introduced. Mom had to sign a waiver to say it was ok to use the footage (yes, everything was being filmed) for advertising purposes. So, Dolores walked up onto the stage to meet someone she had no idea what her role or story line in the show was, in front of hundreds of true cheering fans. She took Catharines hand into her hands and looked her in the eyes as she purred shed never thought shed ever have such an honour as to meet her and what a thrill to be here today. We went to lunch and for nearly two hours Dolores navigated a conversation so that no one even suspected that we had no clue about anything. Now if that isnt academy award material, I dont know what is. .
