Obituary for Norman Henry "Norm" Robertson

Norman (Norm) Henry Robertson
July 29, 1941 - March 2, 2024

Following several long illnesses Norm peacefully died at home, on March 2, 2024, surrounded with love by his wife and children.

Norm was born on July 29, 1941 in Toronto to the late John and Mildred (née Armstrong) Robertson. He married his teenage sweetheart Kathy (née Wakeford) on September 21, 1963. They joyously celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last September.

Norm enjoyed a most vibrant life. He served as minister in three Lutheran parishes: Sudbury (1971-1977), Hanover (1977-1985), and Elmira (1985-1987). In 1987 Norm became employed in the furniture retail business, retiring in 2008 as manager of the Cambridge, Ontario branch of Smitty's Fine Furniture. His employees found him to be hard working yet with a sense of humour - especially when he dressed up as a clown during Halloween! He and Kathy settled in Kitchener in 2012 where they've enjoyed an active and fulfilling retirement.

Norm was blessed with his children who filled his life with joy and love: Rob (Kerry) of West Kelowna, B.C.; Renée Johanns of Waterloo; predeceased by infant daughter Sarah (Sudbury); Deb Bald (John) of Waterloo. Norm relished his life as grandpa to Alex, Josh, Matt (Rob and Kerry), Mitchell, Ryan (Renée), Ethan and Nicole (Deb and John). He was thrilled to become a great-grandpa to Aaron-James and Emily (Alex and Alisha). His family were the apple of his eye - how we will miss his presence among the family circle!

Norm will be sadly missed by his sister Susan Munro of Streetsville, sister-in-law Virginia Wakeford (Chris Cannon) of Kingston, brother-in-law Jim Wakeford (Angela) of Seagrave, and sister-in-law Kim Wakeford (John Zadro) of Guelph. His gregarious laugh will be cherished by his cousins, his nieces and nephew, and friends near and far.

A celebration of a life well lived will be held at Grand River Unitarian Congregation, 299 Sydney St. South, Kitchener on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. followed by a downstairs reception. If you are planning to attend we invite you to wear something colourful in his honour. The service will be livestreamed via https://www.youtube.com/@GRUnitarian/streams .

Expressions of condolence can be made to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Society of Canada or Ronald McDonald House, Hamilton via Henry Walser Funeral Home Ltd., Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
