Safely home. Paul Laverne Eckmier age 70, of Kitchener, passed away at Lisaard House in Cambridge on Wednesday, August 7th, 2019.

Born in Stratford, beloved husband of Deborah Ruth (Harris) Eckmier for 42 years. Son of the late Carman and Ethel (Gilbert) Eckmier of Stratford, loving father of David (Kara) Eckmier of St Clements, Jonathan (Deb) Eckmier of Elmira, and Timothy Eckmier of Toronto. Treasured Papa to Leah, Lyla, and Dawson, Hudson, James, and Georgia. Paul will be fondly remembered by his Aunts, Ellen (David) Fangrad and Grace (Dieter) Uloth both of Stratford, also by his sisters-in-law Catherine (Russ) Schenk, Heather (David) Vossen, Sharon Harris, and Lois (Peter) Walter and nieces and nephews.

Paul worked as a letter carrier at Canada Post in Stratford then drove bus for 35 years at Grand River Transit. He sang in the Gospelites Quartet and the Schneider Male Chorus for many years.

Paul and Debbie were married at Elgin Missionary Church in Stratford. He attended Koinonia Christian Fellowship in Bloomingdale.

Paul participated in the MS Bike Tour and organized many ski-a-thons and fundraisers for Children’s Wish Society. He also volunteered as a ski instructor for Track Three Chicopee Ski Club. After retiring he was the president of Old Salts Seniors Canoe Club.

Paul had a love of family, canoeing, skiing, and photography. He loved the beauty and intricacy of God’s creation. He loved telling stories about all his adventures. We will miss his smile, his kindness and his generosity.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Koinonia Christian Fellowship (850 Sawmill Rd, Bloomingdale). Donations can be made to Children’s Wish Foundation or Worldvision through the Henry Walser Funeral home, 519-749-8467.
