Obituary for Samuel Michael Foxworthy

Print
Foxworthy, Samuel (Mickey) Michael

We are mourning the loss of a very beautiful soul. Samuel passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario, at the age of 80.
Beloved best friend to Patricia Gaudet, dear father to Nicole McCallum and Jared Foxworthy (Cintia), and loving Pépé to Ariana. We cherished you so much.

Born in Ottawa, Ontario, son of the late Samuel Hine and Louise (Quarrier) Foxworthy. He will be missed deeply by his siblings Jack (Nancy) Foxworthy; Barbara (Brian) Masse; Elaine (Larry) Blocka; Robert (Jackie) Foxworthy; predeceased by Robert’s late wife, Cathy and by his half-brother Larry (Alice) Pitts; survived also by quite a few loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The world’s most interesting man, Samuel was a fiercely independent traveler who touched the hearts and lives of so many, and was known and respected for his gentle strength, profound kindness, and steady wisdom. He was a rock, an amazing listener, an inspiration, and a genuine man who made us all laugh with his stories. Many of his friends were scattered along the west coast of North America – from Mexico to Alaska. For decades, Samuel spent winters vacationing in Mexico and considered his beloved friends there to be part of his extended family. He also spent many years enjoying the beautiful states of Oregon and Washington.

He was a fisherman, hunter, boxer, drag car racer, bowler, pool shark, singer, songwriter, musician, artist, golfer, animal whisperer, and a passionate lover of life who calmly embraced everything that came his way, and quietly lifted everyone around him.

“Sammy” or “Mickster” as he was affectionately referred to, loved the great outdoors whether it was fishing with friends for salmon on the famous Kenai River in Anchorage, or those golfing junkets with his brothers, nephews and friends to Myrtle Beach, S.C. and later to Gatlinburg, Tenn. He once boasted that during his golfing career, he never once bought or used a new golf ball. He could always count on receiving an ample supply of “Craigers” (from his nephew Craig’s old stock!).

Samuel spent many of his early years participating in everything from sea cadets (stationed in Halifax), to working as a draftsman, surveyor, logger, and farmer. He was a businessman and tradesman, owning a car detailing business before heading to the oilfields in northern Alaska for over 10 years. Afterwards he owned and operated a mobile-home park in Portland, Oregon for many years before moving to the Waterloo area in the late 1990’s to be with his family.

He was immensely content to have led such an interesting and fantastic life, always surrounded by love.
A true gentle man and a gentleman. Rest in peace now sweet man.

At Samuel’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

A special thank you goes to the Grand River Hospital - ICU Health Team for ensuring his comfort at all times.

In honour of our animal lover, as expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society and arranged through the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, (519) 749-8467.
