Obituary for Douglas James Herter

Herter, Douglas James:
Passed away, peacefully, with family by his side, on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 at Hospice Wellington at the age of 63. Beloved husband to Lois Ann (nee Bedford, Amos) for 16 years. Loving Father to Dale (Brittany Grant) and step father to Megan (Blair) Winch, Erin (Chris) Savard, Courtney (Andrew) Campbell and Colin Amos (Brittany Fisk). Cherished Grandpa Doug to Carley and Emery Winch, Campbell, Molly, Graham and Callum Savard, Mackinley and Sullivan Campbell and Owen and Grace Amos. Dear brother to Brenda (Paul) Mennie, Joyce (Kerry) McCann and Wayne (Barb) Herter and brother-in-law to Kim and Gwen Bedford, Paul and Jane Bedford, David and Connie Bedford, Victoria and Reid Grassick, Rob and Cathy Taylor and Rob and Lindsay Amos. Son-in-law of Bruce and Marlene Bedford, and Lucy Spence. He will also be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Berneice Herter.
Doug retired in 2017 from his position as a Communications Network Technician at the University of Waterloo which followed his multi-faceted career with Bell Canada. His dedication and passion for the Montreal Canadiens was only surpassed by his love for the outdoors, specifically time in the wood lot. Having retired in Elora, Doug and Lois enjoyed their sojourns to their cottage in Elliot Lake where he spent much time boating and fishing.
Doug's family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 8th, 2018 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018 followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Private family interment at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Elora United Church or Hospice Wellington would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
