Olbort, Herta (nee Preikschas):
With infinite sadness and heavy hearts, we announce that Herta Olbort passed away peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2018 at home at the age of 81. She was born on August 8, 1937, the 19th of 20 children. Beloved wife to the late John Olbort (September 20, 1989). Loving Mother to Marianne Stafford, John (Susan), Ruth Hennessy (Jim) and Fred (Colleen). Cherished Oma to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings, Berta, Greta, Willie and Erica. She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers. Predeceased by her parents and many siblings.
Herta lived an eventful life. She left Lithuania with her family and after many challenges, she arrived in Canada on March 21, 1952 at the age of 14 and immediately found work. She took joy in working her entire life, even continuing past retirement until three weeks before her death. She was never idle.
A Celebration of Herta's Life will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467, followed by a reception. Private family interment at Parkview Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Grand River Hospital Foundation - Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
