Obituary for Sheila Anne Prociw (Hodgkinson)

Sheila Anne Prociw (Hodgkinson)
Sheila Prociw nee (Hodgkinson) formerly of Meaford Ontario: Passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday June 27, 2018 in Johnston, near Des Moines Iowa in her 67th year.
Loving wife of Alex Prociw for 40 years. Cherished mother of Michael (Savanna) Prociw of Lethbridge, Alberta and Nicholas (Julia) Prociw of Vancouver, British Columbia.
After high school in Meaford, Sheila left home to attend Western University in London, Ontario before moving to Waterloo, Ontario where she worked at the University of Waterloo. It is here that she met and eventually married Alex. Together they moved to various locations including Montreal, Toronto, and eventually settled in Elmira Ontario, to raise two sons, Michael and Nicholas.
Sheila and Alex were longtime residents of Elmira. Sheila was a stay-at-home Mom, devoting much time to support her family. She was involved in a variety of community services volunteering with the food banks and nursing homes, and supported groups interested in environmental affairs.
In 2010, Sheila and Alex relocated to the Des Moines, Iowa area where Alex accepted a position with UTC Aerospace Systems (formerly Goodrich Aerospace) in West Des Moines. Residing in Johnston Iowa, she continued to volunteer time to various community service activities including the library and Public Broadcasting affiliate.
Sheila was a voracious reader of a wide variety of materials including contemporary literature, history, business and economics and was a regular patron of the Johnston Public Library where she was part of a book club. Sheila enjoyed meeting people. Her personality put others at ease and she reveled in conversation and debate on any topic.
She especially enjoyed the times she spent with her immediate family, frequently returning to Canada for visits. Together they enjoyed many activities including watching the news and discussing current events. She was also fond of watching movies, listening to NPR and playing both card and board games; an astute scrabble player, Sheila participated in many closely contested games with her son Nick. She had an affinity for gardening, and could often be found picking weeds by hand in her yard. Sheila will forever be remembered for her impeccable organizational skills, her sense of style, financial literacy skills, infectious laugh and intellectual discussions. Those closest to her can also attest to her sweet tooth.
Sheila will be sadly missed by her siblings, Norma Hodgkinson, John Hodgkinson, Janice Bayley, Joanne Kavelman and her husband Mike as well as her in-laws Pauline and George Prociw of Chatham, Roman Prociw of Vancouver, British Columbia, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Sheila is predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Virgil Hodgkinson of Meaford, Ontario.
A Memorial Service will be held for Sheila at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, N2B 2A5 (519-749-8467) on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
In memory of Sheila, donations to the Public Library of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
