Obituary for
Arthur Charles Conners Hornett
Hornett, Arthur
Passed away in the morning of Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Parkwood Mennonite Home at the age of 89. Mom and Dad married early and quickly developed a loving and supportive marriage that was foundational and immovable.
Beloved husband of Dorothy for almost 68 years. Loving father to Steve Hornett (Laura Robertson) and Carol Anne Hornett (Dennis Hillier). Caring parent to Peanut and other family furbabies through the years. Art was a member of Trinity United Church, Kitchener since 1975. In February of 1973, Art received recognition from the Governor General, Roland Michener, for his fundraising efforts in support of the newly created Cadet Corps at the KW branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade.
Art’s career as a Sales Engineer exposed him to many areas, including electronics, flow control, cryogenics, welding and medical equipment. Art’s values and life experience also enabled him to contribute in a leadership role as a manager, business owner and management teacher. As retirement projects, Art founded and operated Evergreen Medical Supply and later, DNA Medical. Both companies successfully focused on customer service as a core value.
Mom and Dad were frequent travelers, and enjoyed trips to Asia, Russia, the Black Sea, Europe and the Caribbean.
Art was recognized by family and friends as a compassionate and determined gentleman. Throughout his life, he viewed obstacles as challenges that could be overcome. Art was passionate about climate change, and offered lectures on the topic at the Kitchener Public Library and various retirement homes. He also spoke about ghosts, as the result of a true family experience during three years spent in New Liskeard, Ont.
Cremation has taken place. On the request of the family, there will be no visitation or memorial service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations would be appreciated by the family to the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony or the Sunnyside Foundation – Community Alzheimer’s Program (cards available at the Henry Walser Funeral Home 519-749-8467). Visit www.henrywalser.com for Arthur’s memorial.
