Ernst, Wayne Ross William

It is with heavy hearts we announce, that Wayne passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on April 8, 2018 at the age of 78.

Loving husband to Doris for over 54 years and father of Steven, Jennifer (Wido Westbroek), Christopher (Kendra) and proud Papa to Field and Ethan Westbroek, Liam, Reid and Ryan Ernst. Son of the late Roscoe Ernst and Dorothy (Shantz), brother of Brian (Sandy), Pam (Floyd Maidment), Sharon (Brian Reid), predeceased by sister and brother-in-law Joanne and Jim Mackenzie.

Wayne was a devoted teacher and student activities director at Waterloo - Oxford District Secondary School for 32 years. He found great joy in mentoring students which was shown through his tremendous love for coaching. He had a passion for gardening and the outdoors and spent much of his time camping, canoeing, cottaging and enjoying recreational tennis & cycling. Many ski trips complemented a life-long joy of traveling and wonderful "happy hours" spent dining & laughing with family & friends.

According to Wayne's wishes, cremation and private family service has taken place.

A memorial visitation will be held at Henry Walser Funeral Home (507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467) on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the medical community that looked after him so well. Wayne maintained a positive outlook in his last years.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name to "Jump Start" - Canadian Tire (donations can be made at the funeral home).
