Bowman, Robert (Bob)
Passed away peacefully after a full life on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in his 90th year. Beloved husband for 51 years of the late Catherine (Kay) Bowman (2005) and loving father of Jim (Lois) and Sharon Evans (Richard). Bob will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Cameron and Alison. Survived by his sisters, Ruth Van Drongelen, Shirley Bowes, sister-in-law Betty Bowman, nephews Nick Van Drongelen and Mark Bowes, and many nieces and nephews from the Halbot family. He shared a special friendship with Patricia (Pat) McMann for the past several years enjoying concerts in the park, volunteer work and spending time together. He was predeceased by his parents, Clayton and Lily Bowman and brother Edward.
Bob was an avid Blue Jays fan attending games or listening on the radio. He enjoyed golf with his golfing buddies, as well as watching tournaments on TV. He was proud to be one of the first members of the Goodlife Fitness Club. Bob loved life at Turtle Lake and was known as the engineer to consult on cottage projects. He enjoyed his weekly solo or euchre card games at St. Anne’s Church, and during quieter times worked on sudoku puzzles. He worked for over 25 years at the Waterloo Catholic School Board supervising the maintenance department and was always at the ready to resolve stubborn boiler or other building issues.
His enthusiasm for life drew in all who knew him. He is remembered for his generous community involvement in Kitchener-Waterloo as a life time member of the Knights of Columbus; St. Mary’s Church as an usher and member of the nocturnal adoration society and parish council; and volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul. He volunteered for many years with the Adult Recreation Centre of Waterloo, driving seniors to programs and helping in the kitchen with meal preparation. Bob also volunteered with the annual Angel Tree and was a driver/navigator for Santa’s Christmas Eve visits. Bob is remembered for his great wit, sense of humour, and for being at the centre of any social activity. His gentle and kind nature left an impact on those he met. We will keep him close in our hearts and think of him as a bright star in the night sky shining for us all.
