Obituary for Fr. Bill

LaFlamme, Reverend Father William, C.R.

The Congregation of the Resurrection announces the death of Father Bill LaFlamme, C.R. on January 30th, 2018 of Resurrection Manor, Waterloo, Ontario. He was 88 years old, in his 68th year of religious life and 62nd year of ordained priesthood.

Father LaFlamme is predeceased by his parents Eugene and Elizabeth (Zimmer) LaFlamme, and his brothers Donald, Jack, Robert and David. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his two sisters Jeanette (Nelson) Hofer and Yvonne (Gerry) Boland, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Father LaFlamme professed his religious vows in the Congregation on September 8, 1949 and was ordained to the ministerial priesthood on June 4, 1955.

He began his ministry as a Catholic teacher at St. Jerome’s High School, Kitchener. Fr. Bill served as Administrator at St. Theresa’s Cathedral, Bermuda and at St. Mary’s Parish, Kitchener. He also ministered as Pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Hamilton, St. Francis Parish, Kitchener, Blessed Sacrament Parish, Burford, and in Bermuda at St. Michael Parish, Stella Maris Parish, and St. Anthony’s Parish, Rector at St. Theresa’s Cathedral. From 2003-2005 Fr. Bill semi-retired to Fort Myers, Florida and acted as Assistant Pastor at St. Andrews’ Church, Cape Coral, Florida. In 2006, Fr. LaFlamme retired to Fort Myers, Florida, and in 2012 moved to Resurrection Manor in Waterloo.

Fr. LaFlamme held a variety of leadership roles within the Congregation as Novice Master and Vocation Director, and Rector of St. Thomas Scholasticate, in London. Fr. Bill was very involved in the community acting as Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus in Kitchener, Hamilton, Bermuda and Fort Myers, Florida.

Fr. Bill was an eternal optimist with a jovial personality; he was a man of deep faith, hope and love. Father Bill’s life of faithful service touched the lives of his students, brother religious, parishioners, and family during his life of dedicated ministry.

Visitation of Father LaFlamme will take place at Resurrection College, 265 Westmount Road North, Waterloo, ON on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 P.M. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 49 Blueridge Avenue, Kitchener at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener. Reception to follow at St. Francis Parish.
