Obituary for Richard Francis Kieswetter

Richard Francis Kieswetter
Richard Kieswetter (September 10,1948 – July 16, 2018)

Quality of Life and protecting his loved ones led Rick to make the brave decision to decline risky dialysis and on July 16, Rick was freed from twelve years of medical struggles.

Rick leaves forever to love him, his wife Linda, stepsons Bryan (Amy) Thompson, Rob ( Jodi) Thompson; brothers Gary (Deb) and Dennis (Michelle) Kieswetter; Susan Kieswetter; Aunt Marlene Kieswetter, Uncle Frank (Joan) Rymarchuk, nieces, nephews and cousins. Rick loved his Salter family, Chuck and Norma, Linda's siblings and "outlaws", and their families; John Thompson (Brenda) and Ross (Gabriele) Dettweiler and family, especially Lisa.

Mostly, PapaRick loved his granddaughters Gracie and Holly Thompson. No matter how poorly Rick was feeling, he could always make time to play with them. They made him smile. Rick was sad to be leaving them and his grandson due in October and promises to be their special angel.

Rick was predeceased by and has joined in heaven, grandson Pitt Thompson, mother Elsie and father Frank Kieswetter, and Uncle Bill Kieswetter.

Rick grew up in Waterloo and worked for Manulife Financial. Rick loved curling and met Linda at the Granite Club in 1989. Retirement took them to Ajijic, Mexico. Rick thrived in his adoptive country and leaves many friends there to mourn his death. Rick enjoyed cottage life in Parry Sound, Michigan and recently at Pike Lake. Reading was his passion especially history books on US presidents and the Civil War. Thursday nights with Adrienne, Ron and Doug, New Years Eve with Ralph and Doris were special for Rick. "Iced tea, no ice" made many servers chuckle. Along with Bob King, who was such a rock during this journey, these friends and many others all helped to keep Rick going.

Thank-you to all of the amazing medical and healthcare staff in Mexico, London and KW and to the staff at Innisfree House whose care calmed him and made Rick feel at home his last few days.

At Rick's request there is no formal funeral. Rick made his peace with God. Thank-you to Father Dave from St. Michael's Parish for coming to the hospital.

A celebration drop-in is planned for Wednesday, July 25, 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Kennedy's in St. Agatha with Parish Prayers around 7:45 p.m. Rick wanted no speeches, just fellowship and good memories .

Adios dear Rick. We will miss you. Our world is poorer, but heaven is richer today. Thanks for the rainbow and sunset last night to let us know you made it to your heavenly home. Rest now, you have earned it. Cremation has taken place.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Kidney Foundation, Grand River Hospital, London Health Sciences, or Innisfree House would be appreciated.
