Obituary for Genevieve Psutka (Pittner)

Psutka, Genevieve M (nee Pittner)
Died on March 29, 2018 at Arbour Heights in Kingston, Ontario at the age of 97. Genny was born in Kitchener in 1920. In 1921 her family returned to Poland, but her father John returned to Kitchener realizing they could have a better life in Canada. He was followed by his wife Bernice who bravely and wisely returned to Canada with Genny and her sisters Nellie and Rita and her brother Joe in 1928.
Wife of late Frank R. Psutka (1977). Loving and generous mother of John, Fran, Mark, Paul, Mary, Patti, Pam and Janine. Dear sister of Mary Ann Sellner (Reg). She was aunt Genny to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents John and Bernice Pittner, her sisters Nellie Martin, Rita Humphreys, Helen Wiechers, Bernice Doerfler and her brother Joe Pittner. She has 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Genny will be remembered for her infectious laugh and sense of humour. She enjoyed Polish food particularly perogies, reading books, poetry and creative writing. She loved music, participated in choirs and the Sweet Adelines, and often broke into song. She loved to dance even with her walker. She played pinochle with the best and confounded her children with obscure legal words in scrabble. She was a wonderful gardener, an interest she passed on to her children. Genny lived most of her married life in Stratford where she raised her large family after many moves. In later years she worked as a real estate agent before moving back to Kitchener to be close to her sisters and friends. Her last years were spent at Arbour Heights where she received loving care from many of the staff.

A Celebration of Genny's Life will be held at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467, from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, followed by a Graveside Service at Woodland Cemetery at 3:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Arbour Heights LTC (memo: Genevieve Psutka) 564 Tanner Drive, Kingston, ON, K7M 8Y1. This fund is to be used to support music programs.
