Obituary for Stella Hrycyk (Filevich)

HRYCYK, Stella (nee Filevich)
With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mother at Innisfree House surrounded by her four children on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in her 93rd year.
She was born in Mundare, Alberta, the youngest and last surviving of nine children. Beloved wife of the late Edward (2010); cherished mother of Marilou Mateff (Glen), Jan Caravaggio (Rick), Rob Hrycyk (Michele), Ron Hrycyk and fondly remembered by Glen D'Costa.
Dear Nana of Leanne Coombes, Lindsay Manary (Aaron), Brittany Othmer (Kyle), Hailey Caravaggio, Matthew, Paul, and Sarah Hrycyk (Ryan Elvy). Cherished Great-Nana of Aubree Hrycyk, Adelyn Manary, and Indie Othmer.
Predeceased by her son-in-law David Coombes (2005).
Stella will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The blessed gift of Stella's deep, unwavering love for her family did not go unnoticed. She was the true definition of a family matriarch.
After completing her nursing degree in Alberta in 1947 she began her career in Toronto. She later moved to Kitchener and worked as a nurse and supervisor at St. Mary's General Hospital until her retirement. In her retirement she enjoyed travelling, volunteering, being actively involved in her parish and received her 50 year pin from the Catholic Women's League. Stella was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan, never missing a game on T.V. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Innisfree House for their compassionate care and kindness.
Stella's family will receive relatives and friends from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener. Prayers 8:45 p.m. Monday. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30th at 10:30 a.m., Fr. Phil Reilly C.R. officiating at St. Louis R.C. Church, 53 Allen St., Waterloo. Interment Parkview Cemetery. Reception to follow at Henry Walser Funeral Home.
